One-to-one lessons with Sandra

Are one-to-one lessons right for you?

Check below to find out whether one-to-one lessons are right for you. If at least three of the following apply to you, one-to-one lessons might make the most sense for you right now:

1. You have specific learning goals

You need German for a particular purpose, such as preparing for a job interview, giving presentations, writing professional e-mails or mastering industry-specific vocabulary.

2. You need to improve your grammar

You are confused about certain aspects of German grammar such as when to use the dative or accusative, what the passive voice is all about or how to differentiate between all the verb tenses and modes, for example Präteritum, PQP, Konjunktiv II, Futur I etc.

3. You are preparing for an exam

You need support preparing for a Goethe or telc exam or a particular part of the exam that requires intense preparation, such as B2/C1 writing or speaking, and want individualized feedback to make sure you are on the right track.

4. You struggle with confidence

Speaking a foreign language in front of others can be intimidating. If you feel anxious in group settings, one-to-one lessons provide a safe and supportive space to practise without fear.

5. You learn differently from others

Everyone learns at a different pace. If you find that group lessons move too slowly or too quickly for you, one-to-one lessons allow for a fully personalized approach that matches your learning style.

When are group lessons a better choice?

  • If you thrive in social settings and enjoy learning with others.
  • If you want to put into practice what you have learnt and focus on speaking.
  • If you want to grow your confidence interacting with others in German.
  • If you’re looking for a more affordable option.
  • If you’re at a beginner level and need to build a general foundation first.

Here’s how one-to-one-lessons work in 3 easy steps:

1

We set a realistic goal that we can achieve over a period of three months.

2

We work together for twelve weeks and have regular sessions twice a week.

3

You learn, practise, progress – and will soon be able to celebrate a new milestone!

Lara Mengarelli

When I started my German classes with Sandra my level of German was B2 and I was looking for a way to reach C1.
I had tried out several types of group classes beforehand, but I had reached a level where I felt stuck and did not see any relevant improvements with any of those formats any longer.

I came across Sandra via LinkedIn and was attracted by her full online 1:1 program and her innovative approach to learning. Before becoming her client, I had a free trial lesson and was positively impressed by the following:

– She takes online notes for you during classes, which are sent out just after each class and are top-quality, concise but relevant.
– She has indeed her own way to let you remember specific words, expressions, grammar rules, always making either logical links or relating an item to everyday life or, even better, to your own experience.
– Each lesson is well prepared in advance so that the time is really 100% focused on the study program.
– The program is 100% online, so flexible in terms of schedule.

I realized very soon that her approach to learning was effective. I could easily remember a number of topics discussed during the class and I was feeling my confidence in speaking German was gradually increasing. The fact that you have ready-to-use notes after each class it is a huge help. With respect to the grammar aspects, she also prepares for you convenient handouts ready to use (or review) as needed.
The homework load is not excessive, even if you work full time, and always weighted based on the time between classes. Sandra sends homework’s feedback before the class. So, the time spent on revising it during the class itself is minimal (unless if specific questions)

Sandra is also very friendly and makes the classes enjoyable. She is very proactive in giving you advice about how to accelerate your learning efforts besides classes. I started reading books in German and have to admit that this is feasible and even enjoyable!

These are exactly the reasons why I decided to renew my 3-month package and I will likely continue with her new group classes in September.

Overall, my experience as a student of Sandra is very positive and would highly recommend her to anyone who would like to boost his/her German skills in a reasonable timeframe. In about 6 months of classes, my overall German (and the confidence in speaking it) has significantly improved, which proves her approach is working. I am not at a C1 level yet but will probably reach it in another 6 months of classes or so.

I started taking German lessons with Sandra over a year ago to improve my language skills after moving to Switzerland. I decided to go for the private classes with Sandra so I could study from the comfort of my home and she was very flexible with the timings that was needed due to my full time job commitment. My friend had taken classes with her before and she was very pleased with Sandra, which made the deciding process much easier for me.

I had no previous German speaking knowledge and Sandra made learning very easy and interesting. What I liked a lot about her teaching methodology was that she was taking notes through the class so I could focus on learning rather than writing down everything new myself. I also really appreciate private classes that I think makes you improve much faster since all the focus is on you and not your classmates.

After studying with her for a year I can proudly say that my German speaking skills have improved a lot. I have been able to attend meetings with our architect and project manager held in German and I understood perfectly over 70% of the content which has been very liberating.
I could not recommend her enough and I will definitely continue taking classes with her in the future!
